Police arrest
four terrorists, seize bomb
QUETTA: Police on 12 Wednesday foiled a terrorists attempt, arresting four
people and seizing a 16 kg locally-made bomb in a raid conducted at Sariab
Road here on Wednesday.
Briefing newsmen, Inspector General of Police Balochistan Syed Kamal Shah
said that three of the arrested terrorists belong to Takhar province of
Afghanistan and were Persian speaking. As such the involvement of
Afghanistan's Northern Alliance could not be ruled out, he added.
Of the four accused, two had recently trespassed the Pak-Afghan border, one
had migrated some time back, while the fourth one was a local, he said but
did not disclose the names of the accused.
"The terrorists were going to park a Suzuki pick-up (CF-225 Karachi),
carrying the bomb, near the terminal of Quetta-Karachi coaches at Zarghoon,
when they were arrested," the IGP said. An intelligence agency had also
played an important role in foiling the terrorism attempt, he added.
Kamal said that the SSP Quetta and other senior police officials, in plain
clothes, started vigilance of the suspects and intercepted the vehicle on
Zamindar Street at Sariab Road. He said that during investigations, the
terrorists disclosed that they were seven in all and their three accomplices
escaped from the scene.
"We are making all possible efforts to apprehend the remaining accused.
Senior police officials have been deployed at Beleli check post so as to
prevent them from fleeing into Afghanistan," he added.
On the occasion, he said that the terrorists involved in two Sui gas
pipeline incidents in Quetta had been traced out and would be thrown behind
bars soon. To a question about rocket incidents in Quetta, he said that the
rockets had been fired from Chiltan mountain. Some of the accused had been
traced out and would be nabbed soon, he added. 13.9.01 |
