Seminar by Sindhi Baloch Forum Press Release on 2.12.01
A seminar was organised by World Sindhi Congress and Baloch Voice on the current events in South Asia and its impact on the region. The seminar was highly attended by the Sindhis,
Balochs, Siraikis, Kishmiris and representatives of the Liberation
organisation. The seminar was addresses by Sardar Attaullah Mengal, Dr Rubina Shaikh and Mr George Anthony. The seminar declared their deep sympathy to the victims of the 11th September. It was emphasised in the seminar that phenomenon of the Taliban was the creation of the West in association with the
ISI. Pakistani military created this genie to serve their reactionary designs in the region. He said that West supported religious fundamentalism to fight against communism. Though being secular themselves did not support secularism in our part. Sardar Attaullah said until we are not
recognised, as equal citizens capable of deciding our own destiny the problem of the Pakistan will not end. He also emphasised that in the future designs involving Balochistan if the Baloch national interests are not taken into account then it will result in the sacrifices of the Baloch blood hitherto unseen.
Dr Rubina
Shaikh, vice chairperson of World Sindhi Congress in her speech described that we the people of Sindh, Balochistan and Pashtoonistan have suffered enormously from the religious fundamentalism, which the colonial rulers have used as a tool to curb the democratic aspirations of the indigenous people. She demanded that international community should not repeat its mistake of supporting the military regimes of Pakistan unconditionally. She also requested the international forces to support the just and democratic struggle of the people of oppressed nations.
Mr George Anthony, the editor of magazine Liberation, said that on one side the religious fundamentalism has let loose on the other side the natural and other resources, water, land and jobs have usurped by the Punjab. He also said that it will be advantageous to create unity among the progressive forces to fight for their rights.
In second session of the seminar Mr M Anwar of MOM read a speech of Mr Altaf Hussain who couldn't make it due to his personal commitments. He said MOM had a very big rally on 26th September to show their solidarity with the victims of 11th September. He said Pakistan is now a days mentioning their stance to have a multiethnic government in Afghanistan but Pakistan is not ready to create the same in Pakistan.
