Baloch
senators boycott meetings
Senators of Baloch nationalist party (BNP) and Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP)
have boycotted a parliamentary committee on Balochistan set up by former prime minister Shujaat Hussain to find a political solution to the problems in the province.
“We cannot accept the prevailing situation. How it is possible for us to sit on the negotiation table when the army is attacking our homes? Talks and military operations cannot go together,” Senator Amanullah Kunrani of the Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) said to Daily Times on Sunday.
Kunrani said any effort for political reconciliation would fail because of military action against nationalists in Balochistan. He urged the government to withdraw army troops from Balochistan and try to resolve issues through dialogue.
He said no parliamentarians from Baloch nationalist parties would attend committee meetings to protest the federal government’s decision to send troops into the province. 17.01.05 |
