BNP quits body on Balochistan

Balochistan National Party (BNP) of Sardar Attaullah Mengal bid farewell to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JCP) on Friday, claiming that the federal government had failed to develop Confidence Building Measures vis-à-vis Balochistan.

Habib Jalib, general secretary of BNP, told a press conference at Quetta Press Club that the government had been working on the Gwadar Mega project, efforts were underway to establish military cantonments and political workers had been arrested and for these reasons his party could not rely on the promises of the federal government.

“We have decided in the central committee meeting to part ways and leave the negotiation table,” he said.

BNP’s Sana Baloch, senator, and Rauf Mengal, MNA, also resigned from the committee. Senator Mushahid Hussain said that he had not received any written statement from the party and therefore would not comment on the issue. 17.12.04 By Azizullah Khan
