Unruly mob burn five vehicles in Quetta city
QUETTA: Civil armed forces were called out in aid of local authorities on Monday after many incidents of arson in which five vehicles, including two passenger buses, were ablaze by enraged crowd . Police rounded up 20 people, including three responsible for burning an auto rickshaw, as the Frontier Corps and armed police intensified patrolling in the troubled areas of Quetta.
The trouble started following a public meeting by Anjuman Sipah-i-Sahaba protesting against failure of the local administration in arrest the culprits who allegedly kidnapped one
Rehmatullah. Some of the people were nominated and they were not arrested by the police, speakers at the public meeting claimed. After the meeting, the crowd swelled and took to the streets and started attacking the passing vehicles.
At the Pishin Bus Stop in the heart of the city, they burnt down two passenger buses. The buses were damaged extensively and the fire tenders could not reach in time. An auto rickshaw came under attack when the driver dropped the passenger on Stewart Road. The passenger went into a house and returned with some people who manhandled the driver, smash the windscreen and burnt down the three wheeler.
Later Police rounded up three persons from the spot on the charges of arson and assaulting the driver and burning the three wheeler. One of the car was waylaid and set on fire by a group of people. The car was damaged extensively. Another incident took place on Kansi Road where a pick up was burnt by the crowd.
Following the incidents of arson, the local administration called out the contingents of the civil armed forces assisting the local police in maintenance of public order, safeguarding the property of the people. Intense patrolling by the armed and anti-riot police was going on till filing of the report before mid-night on Monday night. The trouble started when the Police and local administration did not permit the
organizers to form a procession and parade the streets.
The gatherings split into different groups and started pelting the passing vehicles with stones. In all, 20 persons were rounded up by the police while police parties were conducting raids at the residences of the people suspected to be involved in the cases of arson. More arrests are expected as local administration and police adopted a tough instance following the incidents of violence in different parts of Quetta.
