PONM demands power transfer to elected people
QUETTA: Condemning the policies of the government, the central leaders of Pakistan Oppressed Nations Movement
(PONM) have demanded of the government to transfer power to the people's representatives to steer the country out of the present crisis.
Addressing a public meeting here on Friday at Pashtoonabad on the eve of the first death anniversary of five Pashtoonkhawa Milli Awami Party's
(PMAP) activists, the leaders of PONM said that their struggle had entered into the final phase and vowed to continue it for securing the rights of the oppressed nations.
Those who spoke on the occasion included chief of PMAP Mehmood Khan Achakzai, former chief minister and leader of Balochistan National Party
(BNP) Sardar Akhtar Mengal, Deputy-Chairman PMAP Abdul Rahim Khan
Mandokhel, M A Bhutta of Seraiki National Party (SNP) and others. They said Pakistan is the home of
Pashtoon, Baloch, Sindhi, Seraiki and Punjabi and it was the need of hour to grant the rights of all the the nationalities. If the rights of the nationalities were denied then it would further deteriorate the situation and increase disappointment among them, they observed.
The leaders of PONM said they do not want supremacy of one province. Referring to the drought, they said that the Sindhis were forced to live without water, while the persistent drought in Balochistan since 1997 had assumed an alarming situation, and the rulers were oblivious of the situation, they remarked.
They paid tributes to PMAP's activists who lost their lives in an encounter with the law-enforcing agencies in April last year. They vowed to render all sacrifices for securing the rights of the oppressed people. The News National Saturday, April 28, 2001
