Prison officials will fully harassing Nawab Marri

QUETTA: The Marri Ittehad has criticized the policy of the Government denying treatment facilities to veteran Baloch nationalist leader, Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri, in Quetta prison. In a lengthy statement, signed by Mr. Lashar Marri Baloch, said that the Marri tribe chief has infection in his teeth and the jail officials are denying him appropriate treatment facilities.

He claimed that the Government wanted to harm Nawab Marri to an extent of incapaciting him in his prison cell. Nawab Marri is already facing pains in his kidneys and superior courts were approached for undertaking tests by specialists and in specialized hospitals. He criticized the attitude of the prison staff for discriminating the Baloch nationalist leader saying that people are not allowed to meet him.

Mr. Lashar Marri claimed discriminatory attitude towards Nawab Marri by the Jail officials. He said that the jail officials intensified harassment of Nawab Marri who refused to enter into political negotiation with the Government and its emissaries in jail. Nawab Marri took the stand that on the one hand the Government is involved in arms twisting and at the same time it wants talks with the detained leader who is denied all the freedom and a cordial atmosphere for talks.

The statement drawn parallel with the deposed Prime Minister who was sent to exile to Saudi Arabia though he was convicted and facing massive corruption charges and Nawab Marri against whom no evidence was put forward since his arrest some 14 months back. The statement also condemned the attitude of the Government sending innocent Marri tribesmen to “ condemned ward” of the Prison which is the normal death row and where condemned prisoners are normally kept. The Marri tribesmen were arrested recently in Loralai District in Eastern parts of Balochistan. He also criticized the treatment meted out to Mr. Alam Pirkani and Mir Abdul Nabi Bangulzai in jail and no one is allowed to meet them in Quetta Prison, the statement concluded. Monday, April 02, 2001
