Mega projects meant to eliminate Baloch people, says Bugti

Jamhoori Watan Party chief Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti has asserted that it is settled that Gwadar port is a part of USA plans to control 700 miles long coastal belt of Balochistan from Karachi to Jewani. The construction of naval and air base at Jewani is for American Central Command to keep Iran under pressure and control oil, shipping and other trade in the region."The proposed naval and air base would be the biggest in Central Asia and the United States would bear all expenses of the project," Nawab Bugti said.

The former Governor and chief minister of Balochistan Nawab Bugti said the people of Mekran who claimed to be educated; they had a considerable representation in government services and were not bound by the so called tribal system, so they should evolve a plan for saving the coastal belt, including Gwadar, and raise the issue. He said he and his party would support such a move.

He said, “The time is running out, if we Baloch do not unite on a common platform and workout a joint plan to safeguard our interests and save our homeland. Baloch will not only lose Gwadar and the entire coastline, but also our existence will be subservient to the will of others. In other words we will be slaves and 3rd grade citizens in our own homeland.”

He claimed that a strip of 30 to 40 miles wide and 700 miles long coastline would be separated from Balochistan for the project. He said the US wanted to pressurize Iran and pave the way for easy approach to the Central Asian states. He alleged that construction of Gwadar port was a part of a huge project, which would ensure the presence of the US in the region. He said China was just building the port as a contractor and it “has no role in this whole episode.”

He further said, “ I believe that is a very serious issue because it aims at eliminating our existence as a Nation, it is childish to think that it could be stopped by issuing press statements, holding meetings, processions, rallies or all parties conferences. Because the opponent is a super power and has collaborators who have long range planning in which Baloch and Balochistan have no role to play and don’t fit anywhere in the game.

This issue cannot be solved by mere discussions, exchange of views and holding meetings; I urge we should launch a broad base resistance movement on Balochistan level and see to it that we don’t stop until and unless we achieve our aims. For this I insist on all Baloch Nationalist Parties and Leaders to fully and completely participate in the culmination of the resistance movement.”

"Instead of suggesting that the Veteran Baloch Leaders Sardar Attaullah Mengal, Nawab Khair Baksh Marri and I should form a new Party or enter a new alliance the Baloch should bring forth young Baloch leadership and young blood to safeguard their motherland her future and security, we three Baloch White bearded, frail shoulders would be always at their sides."

He said no nationalist party had contacted him yet for launching a campaign to save Gwadar. 1.8.03
