UN adopts draft resolution on right to self-determination
The United Nations General Assembly’s third committee in New York, dealing with social and humanitarian issues, adopted by consensus a draft resolution on Universal Realisation of right of people’s to self-determination.
The resolution, co-sponsored by a large number of countries from Asia and Africa, including Pakistan, reaffirmed universal right of people’s to self-determination as enshrined in the UN Charter and international covenants on human rights.
It welcomed progressive exercise of this right by the people under colonial, foreign or alien occupation and their emergence into sovereign statehood and independence. The News 25.11.04 |
